There's far more to being a Cable Jointer than just joining cables together. You'll be using many sorts of tools and machinery in an 'electrifying' environment, so you'll need a sensible head on your shoulders.
The Job
Cable Jointers mainly work in the distribution area of the electricity industry but some specialist Cable Jointers work in the transmission area.
They work on the underground cables that supply electricity to homes, factories, and businesses and the cables that connect the electricity networks together.
They are responsible for;
- Installing and joining the lengths of power cable together.
- Repairing power cables.
- Connecting power cables to overhead lines or other parts of the electrical system.
- Finding faults which may have developed through damage, weather or age.
Have you got what it takes?
This is a physically demanding job and you will be working outdoors so you should be prepared for challenging weather conditions.
The safety of you, your work colleagues and the public are the most important thing with this job so you'll need a very responsible attitude to work. You will need to have good practical skills for handling tools and instruments and be prepared for some hard work.
