Career Progression

An Apprentice Electrical Fitter is a very important asset to a company as they will be part of the skilled workforce for the future. 
 
If you become an Electrical Fitter you may progress into other craft jobs within the industry, and may lead to engineering supervisory jobs, management or senior authorised persons activities, having successfully completed training and had relevant experience.

There may be opportunities to achieve further qualifications in the electricity industry which might include:

  • S/NVQ at Level 3 or 4
  • ONC (Ordinary National Certificates) or Higher National Certificate (HNC) in electrical/electronic or Mechanical Engineering
  • Foundation Degree (in Power Engineering)
  • Higher Education Degrees for example a BEng, BSc, MEng, MSC in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering

Throughout any career in the electricity industry, you will be provided with the required on and off job training, including refresher training and new skills training, to enable you to carry out the job role competently.

After successfully completing an Apprenticeship, and with an S/NVQ Level 3, you could achieve craftsperson status. Some employers may support you with further training, study and continual professional development that will allow you to progress to a professional engineer such as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) in a supervisory post.  

Engineering Technicians are in high demand in a wide range of engineering and technology related industries.

You could also progress to Incorporated Engineer (IENG) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) level with further study and professional development.
