Apprenticeships in England

Apprenticeships are open to anyone aged over 16 living in England and not in full-time education, whether they are just leaving school, have been working for years or are looking to start a new career.

Apprenticeships take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the Apprentices' ability and the industry.

Apprenticeship funding is available from the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS). As the employer, you are responsible for providing your apprentices with an induction into their role, giving them on-the-job training and paying their wages.

All Apprenticeships in England include the following elements:

  • An appropriate work-based qualification
  • Key Skills/ Functional Skills qualifications e.g. working in teams, problem-solving, communication and using new technology
  • A technical qualification relevant to the specific Apprenticeship
  • Other qualification or requirement as specified by the particular job role
