Workforce Planning Model

'The workforce planning model ensures that Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills) has the ability to demonstrate the future skills needs of the footprint and act on this information to raise performance across the sector in support of our strategic plan.'

EU Skills in conjunction with a wide range of employers, have built a successful workforce planning model for all industries across the energy and utilities industries, which enables organisations to understand and quantify workforce leavers and understand how and when they will replace them.

By aggregating company data, forecasts of the skills challenges and associated investment facing our industries can be determined for the next 15 years.

The model enables employers to:

  • Take a proactive, long term approach to workforce planning
  • Determine the actual numbers of recruits needed by year, together with the method of recruitment and training as well as associated costs
  • Plan recruitment and training activity - taking into account lead times to competence to manage investment in the most effective way

Critically, the model enables data from a number of employers to be aggregated, providing robust information on a regional and national basis. At this level the workforce planning model has been highly successful in influencing funding bodies, key stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
