Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England

Changes to the structure of Apprenticeship Programmes

The rules around the content of Apprenticeship programmes in England are changing.

A consultation has recently been launched on the proposed changes. The consultation proposes additional content for Apprenticeships in the form of Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills as well as some guidelines as to the size of the competence and knowledge components. All Apprenticeships offered in England will need to comply with the new rules if they are to continue to secure public funding. The new requirements will form what has been called the 'Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England (SASE)' which will replace the current Apprenticeship 'Blueprint'.

EU Skills is working with employers to assess what impact the proposed changes will have for the future development of Apprenticeships in the energy and utility sector. Feedback from employers will be used to develop a formal response from EU Skills. The full consultation document can be found here and the closing date for responses is 29 May 2009. If you have any queries regarding the consultation please contact Helen White, Apprenticeships Manager on 0845 077 9922.
