IGEM Introduces new Grade of Membership

The Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) is pleased to announce the introduction of a new grade of membership open to all on the Gas Safe Register. The new grade is called 'Gas Technician' and launches in January 2010. Gas Technicians receive the following benefits of membership:
- Recognition in the gas industry
- Quarterly journal, Gas Technology News
- IGEM crest transfer for vehicles
- Education, training and Continuing Professional Development
- Discounts on IGEM Standards and events
- Access to a range of networking opportunities.
Gordon Davies, President of the Institution, congratulated Gas Safe Register on the smooth implementation of the new registration scheme. He said: "We at IGEM are rightfully proud of our history and reputation as the professional body for the UK gas industry. Gas Safe Register is committed to safety and focuses on providing consumers with clear and robust information about areas of competence for each individual on the register. This gives us the confidence to rely on Gas Safe registration as the benchmark for qualification to membership."
Peter Eldridge, Gas Safe Register Chief Executive, added: "We are pleased that IGEM are offering a new grade of membership to Gas Safe registered engineers that recognises their expertise and adds value for our registrants. Anything we can do that helps 'raise the bar' has to be a good thing for gas safety."
