Application open for the Utilities and Service Industries Training Limited Awards!

27 January 2012

USIT Awards 2012Applications are now open for the latest USIT (Utilities and Service Industries Training Limited) Awards.

FREE ATTENDANCE AT CONFERENCE

USIT will pay delegate fees and £100 expenses for up to ten people to attend the Institute of Water Annual Conference 2012 to be held at the Royal Society in London on 17-18 May.

Most elements of the water industry have been changing, are under review, have been restructured or will be soon. New legislation, draft price-setting methodologies, changes to environmental regulation and an increased focus on the consumer experience will bring fresh demands on those who work in or supply the water sector. This Conference brings together leading industry figures to talk through the implications and explain the potential effects and outcomes.

Speakers include:

  • Martin Baggs, Chief Executive, Thames Water
  • Heidi Mottram, Chief Executive, Northumbrian Water
  • Marian Spain, Director of Policy & Communication, Ofwat
  • Paul Leinster, Chief Executive, Environment Agency
  • Sonia Phippard, Director for Water, Floods, Environmental Risk and Regulation, Defra
  • Yve Buckland, Chair, Consumer Council for Water
  • Paul Mullord, Director, British Water
  • Anna Gocher, Analytical Team Leader, South West Water (a winner of this USIT Award last year)

As well as hearing from key influential speakers, winners of the Award will have the opportunity to network with industry peers and experts face-to-face.

Sharna Richings from Veolia Water won the Award last year and attended the Annual Conference in Swansea. Speaking about the event Sharna said: "The Conference was inspirational, motivational and increased my understanding of key issues."

Speaking about his experience Stephen Hepburn from Black & Veatch added: "The networking opportunities were great - I enjoyed some on and off subject discussions with several of the speakers and other delegates, during the breaks and at the end of each day."

BUSINESS SKILLS AWARDS

Entries are also open for the USIT Business Skills Award. Offering sponsorship of up to £7,500 to attend an established academic or training course in the UK, this award is primarily designed to assist individuals to benefit from opportunities that would not normally be available to them from their employer's ongoing training and development support arrangements.

The award will concentrate on assisting individuals of any discipline and level who are striving to develop their career in a manner which is seen to be of benefit to the utilities industry.

To enter either Award candidates must submit a short paper (1000 words) outlining why they want the sponsorship and how they expect to benefit, and complete an application form which can be downloaded from http://www.usit.org.uk.
