Former military man gets a pass in gas

An ex-Army corporal from Halifax, Colin Philliskirk, thought Civvy Street would be one of the hardest missions he would ever have to embark on until local training company, Brookhouse Training, provided a transition route that was future proof outside of the Forces.
After 14 years of serving his country, Colin's Army career in the Royal Armoured Corps ended in 1996. With strong communication skills and an ability to lead Colin felt a career in sales would be a natural progression. Colin spent over a decade fostering this ability through a sales and project management role only to be made redundant leaving him high and dry.
"Being made redundant really made me think about how I could secure a career that was effectively future proof. I'd already been thinking of retraining as a gas engineer so when I qualified for support from a Government backed redundancy scheme I took the leap and contacted gas training company Brookhouse Training in Bradford. Says Colin.
"I haven't looked back. The standard of training I received was extremely high. An important part of the course was gaining hands-on experience and during my time with Brookhouse I didn't have to worry about organising a placement for myself - this was all taken care of by the company for me and I felt this real, on-the-job part of the course was invaluable. I now have the security I was looking for and career satisfaction"
Colin is now fully-qualified and trading independently as a gas engineer. He has a steady stream of work through a sub-contracting agreement with another company and has found security and satisfaction outside of the Army.
