National Occupational Standards

National Occupational Standards describe what an individual needs to do, as well as what they should know and understand, in order to carry out a particular job role or function.

National Occupational Standards

What are National Occupational Standards?

National Occupational Standards (NOS) specify UK standards of performance that people are expected to achieve in their work, and the knowledge and skills they need to perform effectively. NOS are developed by employers and experts in our industries under the guidance of the Energy & Utility Skills Group. They are then subject to formal consultation and approval processes. NOS are approved by UK government regulators, to make sure they reflect industry practices across the whole UK.

The most up-to-date standards for various industries are kept on the NOS database.
