National Skills Academy for Power

The National Skills Academy for Power (the Skills Academy) adds value by increasing capacity, capability and connectivity, nationally across the industry.

Tangible benefits for employers, Education & Skills Providers and learners are created through the development and delivery of a range of innovative, high-quality products and services, under the following nine themes:

  1. Promoting power as a career of choice (Sector Attractiveness)
  2. Understanding the demand for, and optimising the capacity of, Power Sector-related education and training provision
  3. Championing the development and maintenance of modular and flexible qualifications
  4. The provision of standard core training materials to support new qualifications, schools and colleges
  5. Establishing and maintaining a network of quality Education & Skills Providers
  6. Sector-focussed knowledge capture and sharing
  7. Developing systems to demonstrate and manage competence across the sector
  8. Influencing stakeholders as National Skills Academy for Power enablers
  9. Basic skills assessment and career planning

The Skills Academy is made up of a national co-ordination and administration hub, which works with regional clusters of training providers. Each regional training cluster includes Power Sector companies' internal training provision and high-quality private, Further and Higher Education providers.

We ensure that these training providers attain the high performance standards expected of them. The Learning and Skills Council's quantitative assessment of performance - the Framework for Excellence, and the new Training Quality Standard is integral to this process.
