Sector Skills Agreement Research for the Electricity Industry
During 2006/07, Energy & Utility Skills has been working on its Sector Skills Agreement (SSA)which has involved many stages of research and collaboration with employers and stakeholders. Below you can find out all the main priorities from this in relation to the power industry.
Within the power industry, the following priorities have been identified for further, structured discussions with employers:
- Securing the competency of the sector's workforce, via a multi-utility approach where appropriate
- Improving the sector's profile and promoting it to potential new entrants
- Contractor engagement strategies to ensure and demonstrate workforce competency
- Influencing government policy and reducing the impact of regulatory requirements on workforce development and planning
- The production and distribution of robust sector skills intelligence
These five themes are considerably interrelated and research suggests that not only is there employer support to concentrate on these important issues, there is also acknowledgement of the need for rigorous scrutiny before proceeding towards the major SSA proposal developments.
