Health and Safety within the waste management industry has long been a source for concern for both employers and workers alike, and in order to fully understand these issues EU Skills has carried out research in the waste industry. This research focussed less on statistics and more on what issues were prevalent in the waste industry, and actions that could be taken to deal with those concerns, this research found that health and safety was of utmost importance to employers.
'A Day in the Life of Streetsafe Sam'
To provide the industry with a mechanism to address health and safety EU Skills has produced a series of interactive health and safety 'tutorial' CDs, called 'A Day in the Life of Streetsafe Sam'.The CD's have been produced in partnership with Environmental Services Association, other stakeholders, and a Working Group of representatives from waste management companies. The modules that are currently available include:
- Module One - Waste Collection
- Module Two - Civic Amenity Sites
- Module Three - Commercial and Industrial Dry Waste Collection (sponsored by Veolia Environmental Services)
Streetsafe Sam has received support from the Health & Safety Executive.
