Waste Management - Sector Skills Agreement

WasteThe development of Sector Skills Agreements (SSAs) is of huge significance to all those who engage with Energy & Utility Skills as it provides a structured framework within which all parties can collaborate to create an evidence-based skills need assessment.

By placing the employer firmly at the centre of this framework, Energy & Utility Skills enable the employer to thoroughly examine their key business skills issues.

This can then facilitate an agreement with government, in respect of how skills needs are to be approached, with particular attention being paid to the support funding arrangements that will be needed both from government and employers.

For the waste management industry the main priorities that have been identified through the SSA research are;

  • Improving the industry's health and safety record
  • Improving employee's Essential Skills levels
  • Development of alternative mechanisms for demonstrating competency
