Applying for an Apprenticeship Completion Certificate

To comply with the enactment of the 2009 ASCL Act, Apprentices who successfully complete their Apprenticeship from 13 April 2011 onwards must apply for their own completion certificate (for English Apprenticeship frameworks only) using the ACE online system. However, with the authorisation of the Apprentice, the training provider may apply for the Apprenticeship completion certificate on the Apprentices' behalf.

Apprentices must complete and sign the new Universal Apprentice Declaration and Authorisation Form on completion of their Apprenticeship, in order for their completion certificate to be claimed.

The EU Skills Apprentice Certificate Authorisation Form and Version 1 of the Universal Declaration Form previously available on this web page will be accepted until 28 February 2013 but providers are encouraged to start using this new form with immediate effect.

Guidance notes for completion of the new Universal Apprentice Declaration and Authorisation Form to ensure that it is completed correctly and in line with ACE regulatory and quality requirements can be downloaded here.

From 1 March 2013, only the new Universal Apprentice Declaration and Authorisation Form will be accepted and any certification claims made without this new universal form being completed, signed and uploaded will be rejected. The facility to upload separate "old" declaration/authorisation forms will no longer be available on the evidence tab within ACE.

Note to training provider: The Universal Apprentice Declaration and Authorisation Form MUST be submitted with the request for a completion certificate.

How do I register to use ACE?

To register on ACE please complete the online registration form available on the ACE website.

All fields in this form must be completed to allow us to provide you with a username and password. Your log in details will be emailed to you following completion of the form. The account created through this registration from will be the "administrator" for your organisation. Each organisation will have one administrator account which can then be used to grant additional "user" accounts for your organisation.

How do I use ACE?

Cost and payment

The cost of each Apprenticeship completion certificate is £22 inclusive of VAT. Payment for each certificate must be received by EU Skills before a certificate can be issued. Payment can either be by cheque or invoiced on receipt of a purchase order number. An Apprenticeship Batch Form must be completed and posted to us with payment.

Evidence checks

EU Skills will check the evidence provided for all certificate applications. If there are any problems with this evidence you will be informed via email, so it is important that all your users have an email address entered on the system. Once EU Skills has agreed the evidence provided is correct and payment has been received and is cleared, the certificates requested will be printed and posted to you at the address you have provided on ACE.

Certificate design

Successful Apprentices will receive the new design certificate approved by the Minister of State for further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning. The certificate includes bronze, silver or gold embossed foil seals dependent on whether an Intermediate, Advanced or Higher Level Apprenticeship has been completed.

Does this have an impact UK wide?

No, Apprenticeship certification processes for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales currently remain unchanged.
