Energy & Utility Skills Register

Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills) operates the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR), which is an independent skills register that provides a recognised standard across the whole of the utilities sector. There are a number of Scheme available for the water industry, these are;

National Water Hygiene Scheme
The National Water Hygiene Scheme is aimed at ensuring all individuals requiring all hygiene training do so to a nationally recognised level, regardless of the company they work for. Previously all water companies had some form of hygiene procedure in place, but they varied in their content. The UK water industry has been consulted throughout the development of this Scheme and the production of the training package.

Utility Safety Health and Environment Awareness (water) Passport
This passport has been designed in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines for scheme aimed at raising awareness and understanding. The passport provides employers with a means of ensuring that all people working with them, on water networks and process operations, have an appropriate level of relevant knowledge and awareness of basic, health, safety and environmental requirements.

Network Construction Operations
The purpose of the Scheme is provide a comprehensive register of people with the skills, knowledge and understanding to perform water network construction activities within defined job roles. The Scheme covers the full range of roles and activities for those performing work on water network infrastructure.

Confined Space Entry
The Scheme covers the full range of roles for those requiring entry to confined spaces, or overseeing entry into confined spaces. This ranges extents from;

  • Working in low risk confined spaces
  • Working in medium risk confined spaces
  • Working in high risk confined spaces
  • Overseeing work in confined spaces
  • Emergency rescue and recovery of casualties from confined spaces
