Water Home

The water industry covers the transportation of water from source to the treatment works and subsequent distribution to property boundaries (clean water) or water course (waste water). The industry also includes the disposal of waste water from property to treatment works to water course, the collection, storage and treatment, waste water processes and water distribution.

The UK benefits from very high quality water and wastewater systems. Delivered by a workforce of 166,500, drinking water quality is routinely 99.95% compliant with regulatory standards. Maintaining such standards requires a very high level of technical knowledge and expertise.

The water industry is made up of the regulated water utility companies, non-regulated subsidiary water utility companies (e.g. involved in construction, engineering, consultancy and laboratory services etc) and the supply chain (e.g. contractors, manufacturers and suppliers etc). The prime focus for the water industry is to increase the quality and capacity of training provision at all levels throughout the UK.
