The Smart Metering Network Group works to identify, prioritise and seek to address skills issues within the metering sector. Activities focus on the upskilling of existing staff as well as innovative skills solutions designed to help ensure the competence of new entrants. The network incorporates both electricity and gas smart meter installation skills development requirements.
Entering into 2019, the SMNG has appointed a new Deputy Chair, Mike Ross from Morrison Data Services. Mike is Head of Technical Safety and Assurance and has responsibility for onboarding new staff, training paths including competencies, technical assurance, quality and compliance to national standards. Mike joined the electricity industry in 1990 through a craft apprenticeship progressing through Operations management before an opportunity in setting up a national metering business presented itself in 2008.Outside of an active personal life, Mike’s career has been driven by process improvement and the development of qualifications for the delivery of the smart metering roll out.
Mike will play a key role within the Smart Metering Network Group (SMNG) supporting them as they enter the next phase of the implementation programme which will include the projected increased demand in the coming years.
