Why Become A Member?
Membership with Energy & Utility Skills brings the sector together to collaborate on setting industry standards, driving best practice, and innovating to meet current and future skills needs, as well as emerging green and environmental priorities.
As specialists in skills and workforce development, we work with industry and government to define skills requirements and assess the impact of the greener economy, providing an authoritative voice on skills. By leading collaboration in each area of our membership proposition, we ensure your voice is at the heart of our work, delivering targeted activities that drive real results.
Policy & Engagement
Energy & Utility Skills works closely with governments and key stakeholders to shape and inform workforce and skills policy, amplifying the sector’s voice on critical issues. Through advisory groups and strategic partnerships, we ensure our members influence current and future skills strategies, national reforms, and initiatives across the entire UK.
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
Through Member-led collaboration, our Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) programme is strengthening the sector’s social impact and positioning energy, water, and waste organisations as leaders in inclusive growth.
This influence gives Members a unique platform to connect with and shape the priorities of key government bodies. By working collectively, Members are not only amplifying the sector’s voice at the highest levels of policy but also ensuring that equity, diversity, and inclusion underpin the transition to a greener, more sustainable economy.
Membership ensures your organisation is part of this movement, helping to set the agenda, share best practice, and deliver meaningful change that benefits both the sector and the communities it serves.
Inclusion Measurement Framework
Led and shaped by Members, the Inclusion Measurement Framework (IMF) has become the sector’s recognised source for equity, diversity, and inclusion data. In 2024, 30 organisations across energy, water, and waste submitted data, with endorsement secured from Ofgem, the Energy Networks Association, the Energy Institute, and Energy UK. High-level insights are already informing the CEO Council, Delivery Board, and Diversity & Inclusion Strategy Group, with full results from the latest research to be published in February 2026.
For Members, the IMF provides a trusted benchmark to track progress, share best practice, and demonstrate commitment to a fair and inclusive workforce across all utility services.
Sector Attraction & Retention
Energy & Utility Skills leads sector-wide collaboration to attract, recruit, and retain a diverse workforce, addressing critical skills shortages and strengthening career pathways across energy, water, and waste. Members benefit from targeted campaigns, shared resources, and strategic partnerships that amplify opportunities and improve attraction and retention outcomes.
By working together, Members maximise the visibility and attractiveness of the sector, whether that’s building careers in water operations, strengthening future skills in recycling, or preparing engineers for the energy transition, ensuring a resilient pipeline of talent for the future.
Standards Setting
Our Members lead and collaborate on the standard setting across the sector, which is critical to ensuring that there is an industry-agreed framework to define critical roles, standardise routes to competence, and identify skills gaps. This service is delivered through detailed activity on National Occupational Standards, Occupational Mapping, Apprenticeship Standards and Frameworks development and Qualifications development, thereby ensuring a skilled workforce to achieve net zero and address environmental challenges.
