The Skills Show is the nation’s largest skills and careers event and attracted over 82,000 visitors over the three days and provides hands-on experiences that inspire young people to explore further education, skills and Apprenticeships.
Our exhibition stand at the event was a collaborative space with Power Sector employers from Alstom, E.ON, National Grid and SSE providing visitors with the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at various activities. The stand was also supported by a number of Graduates and Apprentices who spoke to young people about first-hand experience of working in the Power Sector.
Activities on the stand included a low voltage transformer substation, an opportunity to learn more about metering, a task where young people could try their luck at jointing cables and an electro fusion where visitors could make gas pipes.
On the final day of the show, there were less activities on the stands and there were more discussions with young people and parents about getting a career in the sector. During the last few hours of the show, a number of individuals approached the stand with their CVs.
As a result of exhibiting at the Skills Show, we now have contact details for over 300 of the young people who visited the stand and are interested in finding out more about joining one of the four organisations – a great result!
