The National Skills Academy for Power (NSAP) 2025-28 Vision and Strategy will continue to drive the sector’s collaboration to deliver workforce capability and capacity for a secure and resilient net zero power industry.
Steve Barrett, Director of Membership and Strategic Engagement at NSAP, said, “The launch of our 2025–2028 strategy marks a pivotal moment for the power sector. As we accelerate towards a net zero future, NSAP is focused on building the capability and capacity needed for a secure and resilient energy system. Our priorities, from strategic workforce planning to embracing digital innovation and investing in low carbon skills, directly support and complement the Energy & Utilities Skills Partnership’s 2025–2030 Skills Strategy, due to be launched this October. Together, these aligned strategies will ensure our sector is ready to meet future demands with a safe, skilled, and sustainable workforce.”
In 2025-28, NSAP will focus on:
- Strategic Workforce Planning to ensure resourcing of key roles
- Understanding current and future role requirements to optimise AI and digital advancements
- Continuously improving environmental, health and wellbeing for everyone in the sector
- Securing investment to up-skill the low carbon workforce
- Understanding the training and infrastructure needs of the sector
John Tyler, UK Head of Technical Training People Function, National Grid and Chair of the NSAP Strategy Group, said:
“The launch of our 2025–2028 strategy enables us to build on the great foundations, frameworks and standards led by our group members in collaboration with Energy & Utility Skills. Our strategy is designed to propel our ability to secure talent and build the skills and competencies to the appropriate standards at pace. We will be laser-focused on our priorities and outcomes; expanding our Strategic Workforce Analysis to include key supply chain partners, delivering occupational maps for critical skill roles and launching intelligent skills passporting that meaningfully interfaces with broader sectors.
“We will redirect talent interested in our sector to further opportunities across the sector, whilst also broadening social mobility opportunities, enabling access to a huge talent pool and making a real difference to people’s life opportunities. Our strategy will enable our members and the broader UK economy to deliver against the Government’s decarbonisation and growth goals. A super exciting time of growth.”
Continuing to support NSAP, and instrumental in setting the new strategy, are all UK Electricity Transmission Operators, Electricity Distribution Network Operators, SSE Networks, SP Energy Networks, Northern Powergrid, UK Power Networks, National Grid and Northern Ireland Electricity Networks, together with a number of supply chain partners and Independent Distribution Network Operators.
The Strategy will be delivered through NSAP’s three key Network Groups: the Power Generation Network, chaired by EDF, the Transmission & Distribution Network, chaired by Northern Powergrid, and the Smart Devices and Interfacing Technologies Group, chaired by OVO Energy.
